Most exoskeletons need helpers to lift people out of wheelchairs but this one walks over to you on its own

The WalkON Suit F1 developed by a team at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology approaches patients in their wheelchairs and wraps itself around their bodies

Built-in cameras detect obstacles while sensors make thousands of calculations per second to keep balanced

At a recent international robotics competition Seung-Hwan Kim one of the team's researchers who has paraplegia won first place

With the help of the WalkON Suit he moved boxes prepared food in a kitchen and walked through narrow doorways

Kim completed every task in under 7 minutes while the second and third place teams were unable to finish within the 10 minute time window

The suit is already helping patients in the real world bringing us closer to a future where robotic assistance is part of everyday life
