Mainstream modern thought has long trained us to view the world as a collection of disconnected objects. We are taught that a person is separate from a tree, that a town is separate from a valley, and that spirit is entirely separate from science.
When strange anomalies happen — such as identical twins separated at birth who grow up apart but end up living perfectly mirrored lives — modern psychology shrugs and calls it a “crazy statistical coincidence.”
But when I was young, sitting with my elders and listening to the stories of my Coastal Algonquian heritage, I was introduced to a completely different map of reality.
